My FAVORITE Michael video on Youtube...

I found this video a couple months ago. The person who made it (samhath) did a REALLY GOOD JOB! They captured all that Michael Jackson intensity in this video. Really cool. Take a peak.

Las Vegas....[[I can't wait for the SUMMER]]

Las Vegas

Okay. I know I am not the only person in the world who cannot wait for the Summer season to come already. I find that strange too (lol). I used to hate Summer! It's too hot and it's just bright and sunny. Not saying that I despise bright and sunniness. I am just more of a Fall & Winter type of person (coldness and rain are like my favorite things haha..does that make me sound like a bad person?). I just cannot stand heat. I cannot stand it at all.

For some reason though, I am just excited about this Summer. I have so much to do this Summer. Going to Summer sessions @ my school and working are on the top of my list though. In everything you do, try to get ahead (and I've already delayed school enough so, I need to get the ball rolling!). I would say the #1 thing I am excited about this Summer of 2010 is Las Vega, Nevada.

My girls and I have made a little pact that we are gonna make a Vegas trip annually. Lets hope we can keep that up (lol). I think it's coming to a time where we are all headed in diffrent directions but hey, that's life. Anyways, last Summer (at the end of the Summer) we went to Vegas. It was my first trip to Vegas, I had NEVER been there before. I had fun. Seeing all the diffrent sites and such BUT my body had never been through anything like Vegas before.

All that walking around (in HEELS) , partying, and moving around had taken quite a toll on my body ( I did loose weight though (lol). I ate a whole bunch of food and didn't gain a pound because of all that walking....in HEELS). So on the second night, instead of partying and going out..I stayed in the B-E-D.

So, this Summer I am ready to redeem myself. Not saying I'm gonna go out there and get drunk and act like Keily Williams and things of that nature. I just want to experince more of Vegas than I did when I was there the last time.

So...(Tj, Ally, Sherrice..and hopefully Erica) here's looking to Vegas! Can't wait to go and Summer cannot get here fast enough.

Lena Horne dies at age 92

Rest In Peace Lena Horne.....

June 30, 1917 to May 9, 2010

The first time I ever saw Lena Horne perform anything was when I was 5 or 6 years old. I was watching "The Wiz" (which also happens to be my favorite movie of all time!).  She played Glinda, the Good Witch of the South and she performed that song at the end "If You Believe In Yourself". Her part in one of my favorite parts in the film even though she's only on screen for what seems like 2 to 5 mintues (lol). I love the way she delivered the song and every time I watch the movie or here that song I will wave my hands in the air and be like "Yaaaassss Lena!" (lol I always say Yaaasss anytime I feel like someone slayed in a song). It's sad to know that she is gone but I know that she is in a better place. And to be abset from the body is to be present with the Lord so I am not gonna be sad for her at all. Rest in Peace Lena!

Lena Horne lead a FULL life. To be in your 90's is a wondeful thing despite the fact that most of us Americans are checking out of here in our 60's and 70's. She did wonderful things with her life also. She performed at The Cotton Club in NY and stared in movies like "Cabin in the Sky" and "Panama Hattie". Lena also released A LOT of albums (lol). She also won numerous awards too. Yes, she lived a full life. RIP Ms. Lena!! You go giiiirrrl!

Now Diana Ross is the only surving cast member of "The Wiz". I'm gonna watch that movie today.

B-E-Y-O-N-C-E is back....I guess

I haven't been doing this blog "thang" for awhile now..was truly getting over it lol. Plus I have work and school so I put this thing on the back-burner. BUT.....BEYONCE IS BACK. And ya'll know that I love my girl Bey. She said that she was gonna take six months off after the whole "I Am....Sasha Fierce" era went down (lol) and I don't believe it's been six months. If so, it went by very fast.

Today was the world premire for her new video for a single called "Why Don't You Love Me". Which is a bonus track off the "I Am..Sasha Fierce" album (It wasn't on mine lol). I heard this morning that her sistah Solange helped write and produce this single and I can tell. It's got this funk feel to it and I love Solange and her take on "Funk" music. The video is set in what looks like the late 50's and early 60's. Bey takes on that at home wife (She plays a character named "BB Homemaker" which I think is funny) and she's cryin' on the phone to her man talkin' bout why doesn't he love her no mo' (lol).

My favorite part of the video is when she dusts off her 16 Grammys. Yaaaaasss Bey! You betta SLAY Hunny!! She isn't scared to show you who the heck she is and what impact (she knows) that she has in this "Game".

A lot of folks are mad and bumpin' their gums about Bey's return and this video too. Kelly Rowland, her friend/sistah/former DC band mate, just came out with a new single "Commander" and video for that single. Now you know the usual story?! Why does Beyonce have to steal the shine every time Kelly or Michelle comes out with a project?! To tell you the truth on what I think about...I don't know (lol). I believe that all 3 of these women are free to release project when they want to.

I think it's a shame for people to blame Beyonce when they look at Kelly or Michelle's charts or record sales when they haven't bought their albums at all either. Beyonce is Beyonce because of her fans. Any artist is big, medium, or small because of their fans. So if you're such a "fan" buy an album and stop complainig. Maybe then Kelly and Michelle will be...I'm not gonna say on Bey's level but..they'll be where they need to be. So sick of this topic....

But anyways, I hope you enjoy the video. Can't wait to see more from my girl Bey!

individualism.....

Individualism

the pursuit of individual rather than common or collective interests; egoism.

Like the generations of teenagers before me, I spent time trying to be someone I was not. I made it a point to try to fit in and blend in with the crowd. No matter how hard I tried, it couldn't be done. I was always gonna be myself and I finally got to a point in my life where that was fine for me. Being an individual was what worked ( I wish I had found this out sooner) for me.

There are many ways to explain individualism:
  1. Belief in the primary importance of the individual and in the virtues of self-reliance and personal independence.
  2. Acts or an act based on this belief.
  3. A doctrine advocating freedom from government regulation in the pursuit of a person's economic goals.
  4. A doctrine holding that the interests of the individual should take precedence over the interests of the state or social group.
  5. The quality of being an individual; individuality.
  6. An individual characteristic; a quirk.
We are living in a society were young kids are killing themselves because they are so afraid to be labled as "diffrent". They learn how to hate themselves because they don't fit the status quo. It's sad because they don't see the importance of not fitting in. They way I see it, we are all a crayon in God's  great big crayon box. Earth is his coloring book. Why would He make you the same color as the next or last person He's creating?

If a person won't accept you for who you really are, have a Jay-Z state of mind and move "On to the next". There are millions of people in the United States and there are billions, trillions, of people all around the world. The people in your neigborhood, at your school, even at your church don't really matter at all. They are not the end all to be all! Life is not about caring what others think about you or say about you. God already has his opinion about you and that is the only opinion that should really matter.

Stay you no matter what! Let the other fish swim in their class....

[[Health Care Reform]]

While I was at work yesterday, a historic moment in America came forth (lol). The Health Care Reform bill was passed! This is a real step in putting America to a better future.

Our country is a wealthy (if you'd like to call it that..no..nevermind..we are) and many of American's across the United States are not insured. To me that is a problem. It is your right as a human being to be healthy. To live a long life so you can prosper. Get an education, get married, have kids (if you want to lol)..all of that. So many lives have been cut short because they did not have the funds to pay high hospital bills or for health insurance at all.

I've watched and read many stories of people and how their lives have been affected by not having Health Care or not being able to get the right Health Care because of pre-existing circumstances (Which is a SHAME). I just have to say, for anyone who opposed HCR, you are TACKY. For anyone who tried to get in the way of this coming to pass, you are TACKY. It's crazy how we are one if not the richest country on God's green earth and we couldn't get a handle on this situation.

This is also a victory for President Barack Obama. He promised us that he would fight for HCR and he did. Not only did he do what he said he was gonna do, HE DIDN'T GIVE UP. Two months ago they said that this bill was "dead" but the people who still cared fought...and eventually WON.

Here is what will take place immendiately:
  • Insurance companies can't drop sick patients (which is the work of Satan if you ask me. How could they do such a thing).
  • Free preventiv care can be offred
  • No caps on lifetime benefits
  • Young adults are allowed on their parents policies until age 26
President Obama is expected to sign the bill on Tuesday. This is GREAT!

Howard Stren....hmph.

So yesterday I believe, Howard Stren and his co-host Robin Quivers got to bumping their gums about "Precious" STAR, Gabourey Sidibe. Basically, they trashed her.

Stren called Gabby "the most enormous, fat black chick I've ever seen". Then this unattractive man went on to say that Gabby should not expect to get anymore roles in Hollywood. Simply because she is to big to play any roles in Hollywood.

I don't know who this man thinks he is but, he is not God. He does not govern what goes on in people's life and the fate of other people. His opinion is trash. He also said that "She's never going to have another shot".

Please! Gabby is a wonderful actress. The woman played the character of Precious real well. She turned herself into another person in my opinion. When you see the film "Precious" and then watch interviews of Gabby, you see two diffent individuals. For someone as "happy go-lucky" to play a depressed individual as good as Gabby did, that must mean that she's a wonderful actress! Then to be nominated for an Oscar, and you have the nerve to say she'll never get another role is BULL.

His co-host Robin Quivers had the nerve to jump in to the convo. "Everybody's pretending she's a part of show business...what part do they have that she can play".

Gabby can play any part that is offred to her! If the have a role for her then they have a role for her. That's what I have to say about that. And who knows if Gabby will stay the size she is forever? Her size does not dictate what type of actress she is.

In other Gabby news: She is set to make appearances on the new Showtime series "The C Word" and she's lined up another big screen roll with Zoe Kravitz (daughter of Lenny) in a movie called "Yeling to the Sky".

So, in your face Stren and Quivers.

Hello! Pick up your TELEPHONE!

Telephone or DIE
So tomorrow is the day! Lady Gaga's new video for "Telephone" featuring Beyonce (the one and only lol) comes out! I happen to love this song! Every time it comes on the radio I get real FIERCE lol.

As you all know, I love Bey! She is my favorite female singer and is on her way to becoming a legend! I am coming to love Gaga as much. She has built herself as an artist so fast! It's rare that artist like Gaga come around. Ones that we can pin-point and remember everything that she has done.

So, tomorrow on "E" the video will premire.  I forgot what time (lol) I will edit the post when I find out. I just know it comes on the tv tomorrow!

People have been waiting for this video. Gaga fans and Beyonce fans alike have been tweeting and ranting about how much they want this video to come out. I am told it is gonna be EPIC. It betta be EPIC lol. As long as they have us waiting, I want to be "Wowed" lol.

Lady Gaga tweeted the other day that fans were outside her window screaming "Telephone or die". So yea, this is something to be excited about (esp. for the fans).

I found one of the video stills online. Bey looks FIERCE. Didn't find one of Gaga though.
So yea, this video betta be EPIC lol. I sure don't want them to fail on this one. They put us through
too much waiting.

Music & Me...[[RIP MICHAEL]]

One of my favorite songs from Michael Jackson is "Music & Me". I love this song because it is the truth for some people. Music is a real force in the lives of some people. I know it was a real drive for this man.

Rest in Peace Michael....

Oldest Person in US dies at 114

Her names was Mary Josephine Ray and she was 114 and 294 days old.
She was the oldest person living in America but she died yesterday.
She was born May 17, 1895, in Bloomfield, Prince Edward Island, Canada. She moved to the United States at age 3. Her husband passed before her in 1967.
Survivors include two sons, eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

In a day and time where most American are living until their 60's and 80's, I want to know her secret.
I would love to live past the 100 year mark of my birth. RIP MARY!

Now the oldest person living in the US is Neva Morris, of Ames, Iowa, at age 114 years, 216 days. The oldest person in the world is Japan's Kama Chinen at age 114 years, 301 days.
Good God Almighty lol!

House of Dereon Spring/Summer 2010 Collection AD Campaign

The House of Dereon is showing us their new Spring and Summer 2010 collection and I think it's very pretty! Beyonce rocks a tight, fucshia dress with wavy ruffles on the side. It's one of my favorite looks in the 1:45 piece. I wish they would have showed us a bit more but I guess we'll have to look for ourselves on their website.

Dereon is slowly but surely coming up in the fashion world. Mama Tina and Bee are putting in hard work for this line. I happen to love their couture pieces. The every day wear (except for the jeans) not so much. I did just buy a Dereon handbag that is FIERCE for an every day bag though.

The time is here...[[OSCAR FASHIONS]]

Fashions @ the Oscars..
The 82nd Academy Awards (aka the Oscars) were held yesterday. I didn't get to watch most of the show because I was at work (so I missed Monique's win...was a bit upset about that but Monique doesn't pay my bills honey lol) when it came on. I really wanted to high light the fashions though. So other than Monique, Gabby, Lee and Avatar winning, I only cared about the FASHION lol.

Mariah Carey in Valentino
The gown is okay....
And I hope she doesn't think that just because she has on
Loubitans that she's doing something. They don't
even compliment the gown at all.
Accessories are on point though. Just wish the shoes went with the gown.

Miley Cyrus in Jenny Packham
The gown is a WOW!
At 17 she should not be wearing this gown though..
I know that she wants us to believe that she is maturing but...
it makes her look to old and she is so TRYING to prove her point
that she is getting older...I get it.
Hair and make up are lovely though!

Queen Latifa
The gown is by an unknown designer.
I just have a problem with the material the gown is made in.
It's wrinkled at the bottom...
I do love the way it fits her body though & her accessories are just on point!!

Zoe Saldana in Givenchy Couture
The top of the gown is LOVELY!
I am just very so, so about the bottom. It's couture so it only makes sense on the runway
Red carpet, not so much. Fashion is all about risk though so congrats to her on making one lol.

Jennifer Lopez in Armani Prive
The design of the gown is lovely!
Me and my sister both agree it looks like bubble wrap though...
Once agian, another person gets it right on the accessories! All hits!

Kristen Stewert in Monique Lhullier
I love this gown, I love this look!
She doesn't have that many accessories on but that's okay.
If she did she would have flooded the look and it wouldn't be as great as it is.

Kate Winslet in Yves St. Laurent.
This woman usually gives me the GOODNESS with her fashions
last night this was just an okay look. The Jewels are GORG though!!

Penelope Cruz in Donna Karan
She is a FASHION ICON to me! Penelope always brings it FIERCE with her gowns
she never misses it on a red carpet. I love it and that's the end of that story. Say no more!

Meryl Streep in Chris March
THIS IS MY FAV ACTRESS OF ALL TIME!!!
I love her in this gown! The white is a wonderful color on her.
Meryl can do no wrong in my eyes lol.

Maggie Gyllenhall in Dries Van Notien
A fashion risk. Especially for the Oscars.
I don't know if you should wear print at the Oscars...sigh.
I am not a fan of this look.

Monique in Tadashi Shoji
I am so PROUD of Monique! She has come so far. I would never expect
her to win an Oscar if you had asked me that 8-10 years ago.
I love the way the gown fits her body & the color goes well with her brown skin.
I think she could have done without the hair accessorie though.

Anna Kendrick in Elie Saab couture
The gown is a BLAH color and I wish it was red. With her skin, if the dress was red, it would have been
GORG!!

Vera Farmiga in Marchesa
This is another example of runway couture being used on the red carpet.
I love the color of the gown but...all those ruffles are just..too much.

Gabourney Sidibe in Marchesa
Yaaassss!! I am really loving the gown that she is rocking! The gown fits her body so well!
Only thing I wish was that if her hair was more full. Overall the look is stunning.

I will talking about more of the
Oscar fashions tomorrow.
I have other post to do today
and so much to do today also.
More to come tomorrow!

Haute or Not...[[Fashions at the NAACP Awards]]

The NAACP Awards were healed on Sunday and let me tell you, it was a lovely show. All that chocolate skin in one room (with the exceptions of Sandra Bullock, Selena Gomez and others lol)!! The show was wonderful and the nominees that I wanted to win..Won. Yay!

I'm kinda upset that E News didn't do an episode of "Fashion Police" for the NAACP Awards. Other awards shows have a diffrent story. The Grammys, the SAG Awards, the Golden Globes etc. The day after the show was aired or happend, they did an episode of "Fashion Police".

I don't think I have to say why E News didn't choose to cover the fashions at the NAACP Awards...maybe they were just too..busy........NOT!

So, I am gonna do my own "episode" of "Fashion Police" via this computer lol.

First let me start with Ms. KeKe Palmer:
I loved her look for the night! She's giving us youth and fashion all at the same time! Here she shows that she can dress with the best of 'em and still keep it youthful and have a dual audience. Yellow is her color.

Keri Hilson is giving me Couture!!
I love this gown! It sexy! It's black! Her body can wear it (I hate when you see a red carpet gown and you know that heffa should not be in that!)! She looks FAB!!! I like her hair..LIKE! I think she should have went with an "up do". It would have added elegance (more) to the gown. Other than that..Go Keri!

And this is an example of my latter comment....Regina King...giiirrlll!

You know you should not be in this dress! A mess! She has a slight muscular body and the dress is not being displayed like it's supposed to. It just seems like she just threw it on. But I like she shoes.

Yaaasssssss! Anika Noni Rose aka Princess Tiana (I loved that movie by the way!) is so beautiful in this gown!

I love it! This is one of the looks of the night!! It is so BEAUTIFUL! Her hair is beautiful, the jewlery is on point as well. Everything about this look is wondeful! "Hi-five" to you girl (lol).

I don't know how I feel about this look....

I love me some Jill Scott but...I dunno. I am feeling the hair though! The dress not so much. It's not a red carpet dress. This is what you were out to dinner, on a dinner date. Nope Jill..you did not do it for me.

T. Ali (that's how I am gonna spell her name because I forgot how to lol) is very beautiful in her gown!

I love it. I would wear it. She looks beautiful. End of story.

Chandra Wilson is a wondeful actress...I love her character on "Grey's Anatomy" but I AM NOT LOVING THIS DRESS AT ALL! Girrrrrrlll...No!

It doesn't fit her right at all. She is a petite woman and I wish she would have showed her legs to give her some length. This gown is very drab. I still love her though.

More coming in tomorrow's post

Fan Convention for Michael in August

Fans Will Remember Michael.....ALWAYS

Numerous award shows have paid tribute to the KING OF MUSIC and in my opinion, ALLLL OF THEM WERE WACK! The BET Awards (even though they didn't have much time to do so) gave me nothing.

Ooo well excuse me. Michael's little sistah Janet was the only one who gave a righteous tribute to her big brother so scratch what I just said.

But all the other tributes were just....I can't.

In August the fans of Michael Jackson are putting on a "Fan Convention" on for him. I don't have many details yet about the convention but I am sure it will be good. Michael's family have signed on to be involved with the convention.

Everyone from his Mother, Katherine Jackson, to his cousins. And of course you know Jermaine will have something to do with it also. A lot of ppl are coming out of the woodwork trying to say the family is yet again trying to make $$ of of the passing of their fallen member. But you know what I say?

Go ahead Jacksons. If anyone should be making money off of Michael, it should be you guys.

I will post more about the convention when I get more details in another post.

At first I thought.....

Like Mommy, like daughter.....

Former Spice Girl Mel B and her daughter Angel Iris (Eddie Murphy's child).

Oookay, at first I was like..."Oh no she didn't shave her baby's head!!!"
Having her baby going around looking all witch-a-way and things of that nature.
But after awhile I had a change or heart. Mel is actually helping her child
with her creative side and giving the child a since of individuality.

If this was my baby though, I would at least give the hair a bit more style. Not just an easy stick up job.

Phylicia & Anita dancing to MJ

Today on the Phylicia & Anita show...lol

My sister and I were bored in the car, waiting for our classes to start. We brought an MJ CD and started dancing to the song. "PYT" is one of our favorite songs from Michael.

(Excuse the video quality. When I move around a lot with my phone, the videos come out WACK lol).

Pharell Williams: New BBC & Ice Cream for Summer/Spring

Pharell Williams....

When I think about American designers only three key people pop up in my head. Michael Kors, Vera Wang, and Betsy Johnson. American fashion is not celebrated like European fashion. We buy our named brand clothes here. The Hollister, American Eagle, Abercrombie & Fitch..all that basic stuff. When you think couture you don't think America.

Pharell modeled some pieces for his Summer and Spring collection for a popular Japanese mag called, "Honeyee". The look is called "Classic Americana". Take a peek...

This look is kinda coo. Most people act like they don't get it (most of the black men I know will only be intrested in the kicks). He took it back to the earlier times when (in fashion) men held themselves with grace. The way Pharell has the look formated makes the classic look have a bit more "Swagger" lol.

Trying to find more photos.
When I do...
I will update this.

London Fashion Week

Couture...what you know about it...??

I didn't get to cover NY Fashion Week (ugh!) because I was so busy, so, now I am going to do my best in covering London Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week (when it comes about).

First up: Burberry

Their theme for their Autum/Winter 2010 collection was Aviation. Something that I've seen done before (esp when that movie "The Aviator" came out. But once that came out and left, everyone was done with "aviation glamor".

This jacket is FLY in my opinion. In NY, on a cold winter's day...you'd be reaching for it too.
The Jackets are made out of sheepskin (Not so PETA friendly I see...)

This is one of my favorite looks of their collection. I love the put together glamour of it. The colors are just wonderful for the upcoming fall season. While everyone is dressed in their browns, tans, and greens, you should be dressed in colors that pop.

More to come....

$M O N E Y$

Oooo Child....

It is time for me to start looking for a second job lol. This is crazy. I'm in a position were I have money but then it's gone. I get money but then it's gone agian because I have to spend it on things like school and bills. I am so sick and tired of having money and it being in my hands (or on my check card lol) and then it leaves me. I need a second job!! I need some mula, some cheese, some gwap, some of that green stuff (lol).

Please God, help me with this. Are you guys feeling the same way? This economy (even though it doesn't rule me) is not getting any better. I am so upset about the mess our former gov't has gotten us in. It needs to be fixed right away. BUT! I am not going to blame them or put it on their shoulders fully, it's up to me to find that second job and become who I want to be.

So...I'm about to start looking today. I will keep you guys posted lol.

Trying to get the hang of this...

Blogging....

It takes a lot to become a blogger in my opinion. Esp, if you have a busy schedule. I am not gonna give up on this blogging thing though. I plan to take this to the next level lol (hopefully). Expect more from me soon.

Sincerly,

Phylicia

2010 [[ A year of possiblity ]]

2009 was here and left as fast as it came.

What did the year of 2009 bring for you? New beginning or dissapointments? Which ever 2009 brought to you remember this: IT'S 2010 (lol)!! Being that it's not only just a new year, it's a new decade, everything that the former years brought to you doesn't matter much. Be like Jay-Z and brush your shoulders off. If you failed at something, get up and do it all over agian.

If 2009 was funky for you, let 2010 be your "air freshner" year (lol). Everyone around me has been talking about how 2010 is "everyone's year". And don't get me wrong, but just because you have great faith doesn't mean that the person next to you matches your faith (no not at all).

Let this be the year that you stretch your faith real wide and get what you need to get done, done. If you have goal(s) right it down on a piece of paper. Goals rarely work if you try to keep them in your head. They don't just magically stick in your brain. Post them up on your wall, next to your bed if you have to. So you can look at them every day and every morning when you get up.

Also...

Leave the negative and dramactics back in the last decade where they belong. There is no need to pay any attention to negative remarks, comments, or things that happend. I want 2010 to be a fresh year for everyone. A clean page where you get to write anything you want. So around this time next year (2011..can you believe it?) you'll be able to rejoice about all the good you did this year. AND, you'll know exactly what to do for the next year also since you'll be doing it this year.
